Recently, the much expected, second iteration of the iPad mini was launched by Apple at a special event. This device arrives with high resolution retina display. The device will be available from November beginning but India is not in the list of countries where it will be unveiled initially. The tablet has been priced at $399.

Have a look at the top-5 features of the new iPad mini with retina display:

Upgraded Retina display

In terms of pricing and form factor iPad mini had hit all the right notes, but the low resolution was a point of dissatisfaction. After considering feedback, Apple has put a new 7.9-inch Retina display with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels and pixel density of 326ppi on par with the iPad. Now iPad mini looks even more brilliant in hand. The Retina display has over 3.1 million pixels — a million more than an HDTV. That’s a 2048-by-1536 resolution, four times the resolution of the previous-generation iPad mini. In fact, the pixels are so close together, eyes can’t distinguish them. So photos and videos show incredible detail and text is razor sharp.

2.New A7 chip

The A7 chip takes iPad to new heights of power and speed. The new iPad mini with Retina display sports a 64-bit A7 chip which also powers the new iPhone 5s. The new A7 chip makes everything remarkably responsive — while still delivering up to 10 hours of battery life. As per the Apple, the new chip gives up to four times faster CPU and up to eight times faster graphics performance than the previous generation one. With this chip, apps run faster. Games are more responsive. It also supports OpenGL ES version 3.0, enabling detailed graphics and visual effects once possible only on computers and gaming consoles.

M7 Coprocessor

The new iPad mini with Retina display features the M7 motion coprocessor like iPhone 5s.  It measures motion from the iPad mini by pulling data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass. So apps can give a better experience based on the movement of the iPad mini. M7 is more efficient at it, which saves on power.

Better Wi-Fi reception

iPad mini offers users advanced Wi-Fi that gives upto twice the Wi-Fi performance. As per Apple, the new iPad mini arrives with two antennas to support MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) for up to twice as fast 802.11n Wi-Fi. With dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) 802.11n Wi-Fi and MIMO, it offers download speeds upto 300 Mbps that is double the data rate of the previous-generation iPad mini. So now, connection is even faster than before which means users can download a movie, share photos or documents with AirDrop, or just browse the web with high speed. The Wi-Fi + Cellular model arrives with more LTE bands to support more 4G LTE networks.

Dual-microphones

Dual-microphones

In contrast with the original iPad mini, the new iPad mini with Retina display has two microphones – one at the top edge and the other one at the back. As per Apple, the two microphones work together to capture better sound by suppressing audio from the source the user is not focused on. It thereby improves the quality of FaceTime calls because there is less background noise. It makes video recordings better and enhance the voice recognition capabilities of Siri.
